Victory for Oquendo at the Venue
February 20th, 2010
Hitz Boxing's first show of 2010 came in with a BANG! The nearly sold out show at the Horseshoe Casino was electrifying with the energy of the featured nonstop action fights. The up and coming voice of musical artist LaToya mesmerized the crowd with the Whitney Houston version of the National Anthem. Fans were not only treated to a video of James “Buster” Douglas’ 10th round KO of Mike Tyson in 1990, but were also greeted by Douglas prior to the co-main event.
Three time Chicago Golden Glove Winner Derek Zugic got a 4 round decision over last minute replacement Nathan Wilkes who, despite being down, was game to go the distance. The Polish amateur sensation Krzysztof Zimnoch easily destroyed Keon Graham in the 3rd KO of the night as the massive Polish crowd cheered his name and rose to their feet to support their fellow countryman.
In the co-main event former MMA fighter Achour Esho out-worked and out-boxed veteran fighter Martese Logan in a hard fought 6 round unanimous decision. Esho was tested with the Cagey veteran, but stayed composed and easily sailed to victory. The prospect moved up to 7-0 and remains undefeated.
In the main event, we saw a championship bout for the NABA and USBA Heavyweight title. Former 2 time world title challenger “Fast” Fres Oquendo became only the 2nd man to prevent Demetrice King from hearing the final bell in 33 professional fights. King, a man with a granite chin, brutal KO power, and spoiler of several top prospects was the one who was on the receiving end of the spoils tonight. He failed to answer the bell for the 10th round after Oquendo’s relentless pressure caused the young fighter to call it quits in the uneventful, yet joyous finish for Oquendo's team.
On hand were several of Chicago' top past and present fighters and special guest of honor, James "Buster" Douglas the man who shocked the world in Boxings greatest upset when he KO'd Mike Tyson in 1990. Other notables attending were, Angel "El Toro" Hernandez, "Fearless" Fernando, Davis Estrada, UFC former Champ Andre Arlovski and Chicago's top prospect Donovan "DaBomb" George.
